Perennial Foundation Garden

This Wyckoff garden was actually put together with no time for a plan. The clients have seen my work for years at their relatives home so we did a consult on favorite colors, garden style, plant likes and dislikes and maintenance time. Based on that I chose a mix of formally arranged boxwood hedges and full perennial garden. The boxwood were planted in an X pattern on each side of the stairs. This divided planting areas in to triangles which I filled with my clients favorite perennials. Along the right end of the house I chose to plant a hedge of vertical grasses (Calamagrostis ‘Karl Forster’).

The black leaved shrubs variety (Sambucus ‘Black Tower’) against the white garage wall were selected to match the door color. Also blooming in June are black bearded Iris.
